The 21 Challenge site was originally based on a fundraising campaign for the library of Samuel Hearne Secondary School. It was inspired by a generous donation from PSAC, facilitated by the wonderful managers of Squatterz Books & Curiosities and The Bookcellar. After this first donation from PSAC, we realized that if 21 donors each offered $1000, we could finally restock our school library and hence The 21 Challenge was born. Below, our original “About Us” text:
21 Donors. 21 (Inuvik) Days. 21K.
The 21 Challenge is a fundraising campaign for Samuel Hearne Secondary School’s library. The concept is simple: we are inviting community members and builders to help us raise $21K in the first 21 days of April “21 Inuvik Days” and become a Top 21 Challenger!
SHSS is a Northern high school serving the town of Inuvik, NT, and its Inuvialuit and Gwich’in aboriginal communities. All funding will help rebuild its library collection and restore its interior.
Currently, there is no librarian at Samuel Hearne, and we need to restock our collection and to begin updating our facility with computers, an audio center, new furniture (e.g. study carrels), and most importantly, to build a special aboriginal collection to help instill cultural pride and historical awareness in our youth.
A revamped library will also help our students gain critical academic, research and information skills to navigate today’s media rich, information age. Numerous studies have demonstrated the indispensable role a well funded school library and active librarian play in supporting the academic performance of students and student achievement.

I looked at the wish list and it looks like a good selection.
Good luck with the 21 Challenge.

Thanks for the support. The Amazon.ca wishlist in circulation is only the tip of the iceberg! Most of the books we need will be specialized materials from educational publishers to enrich the school curriculum and promote literacy with our special needs students.
